VNXe 3100 spa/spb restart

I just received alerts from our VNXe 3100 that it restarted both spa and sbp.  I certainly didn't tell it to.

Does anyone know why this would happen in the middle of a working production day?

Storage Processor spb reboot complete

Ours did this one time.  Out of nowhere.  After dumping our log files, eventually it was determined the Server Processors had a panic, and rebooted to clear up an issue caused by faulty RAM in one of the server processors.  I'd recommend you get your log files to support ASAP.

With the new RAM installed, so far we have had no additional unexpected Storage Processor reboots.

It's also worth noting one of the odd symptoms we had prior to the RAM Swap, was the Unisphere web configuration went bonkers.  Each time we logged in, it would require us to re-run the configuration wizard, as if we had never logged into Unisphere.

We didn't have to re-configure our storage, but we did have to pick a new admin password, and numb ourselves as we walked through the setup wizard - relying on it not to further change our configuration.   It's bit scary when something that stores important data, can't seem to remember its web-based interface config.

Our VNXe 3300 did the same 2 weeks ago - issue still in support, no resolution.

Would you mind sending me the SR number?

Thanks,

Stfink,

It's been identified that the reboot was due to memory resource starvation.  Management Daemon consumed all available memory forcing other services to panic.  This is not same as other two occurances quoted above. We are working to get a fix to avoid the reoccurance. EMC engineer who is working with you will provide the estimated timeframe. Appologies for the delay.

Thanks,

Dinesh.
