VNXe1600

Hi All,

We are very new to EMC, we have purchased two VNXe1600 boxes and unable to connect to Unisphere.

To which port do we need to connect the network cable. We tried with both management and ethernet ports but there is no IP assigned. Tried with the connection utility as well but auto-discover doesn't receive an IP. Please help

Thanks & regards,
Chamila.

Hi Chamila,

You can configure the management ip on the Primary SP on the VNXe1600 by setting up a IPMI connection to the array.

IPMI connection can be set using a RJ45 cable to the serial port on the SP. Serial Port is a port with a wrench symbol.

Please find the documents below to setup a IPMI connection to the SPs on VNXe1600.

Adding the IPMI document link:

https://support.emc.com/docu53220_EMC_IPMI_Tool_Technical_Notes.pdf?language=en_US

Adding the IPMI software download link:

https://download.emc.com/downloads/DL52903_IPMI_Tool_1.0.exe

Procedure on how to identify which is the Primary SP:

->After setting up IPMI connection to the SPs

->Login as: service

->Password: service (default password)

Step -1-> Run the command: svc_diag -> to check the status of the SP

Step -2-> Run the command: svc_diag --state=software -> to check the process running on that SP

Step -3-> To login to the peer, run the command : ssh peer and then follow Step-1 and Step-2

Step -4 -> The output of svc_diag --state=software will help us find the primary SP, for instance: if SPA has maximum process running on it  then it will list out those process and you can compare the commands from both the SPs to identify the Primary SP and can execute the below command on it to set the management ip address for the array.

svc_initial_config [-f ]  -4  " "

Once the management ip is set, you can access the Unisphere.

Please find the Knowledge-based article which explains on how to set management ip on VNXe3200, this can also be followed for VNXe1600 https://support.emc.com/kb/335954

I hope this is helpful.

Hi Sonam,

Successfully connected using connection utility after connecting the SAN to a separate switch. Is it due to broadcast issue?

Thank you very much.

Chamila.

Hi Sonam,

The problem was sorted, it was a license issue. Once we activate it i was able to create the LUN but could not assign it to the server because due to power failure the storage has gone to service mode and it gives the below error. Could you please help on this.

There is a problem with the system software on this Storage Processor (code 0x1b20).

Regards,
Chamila.
