What is the steps to take a Snapshot?

Hello,

we have VNX 5300 and have two LUNs assigned to unix server, i just need to take a snapshot of these LUNs.

I login to unisphere > Storage > LUNs

-Right click on the lun > Snapview> Create Snapshot

after i created them, get email error "Event Number 710080c9 Severity Error Host SPA Storage Description Failing Command: K10SnapCopyAdmin DBid 0 Op 1046."

so may i miss some other steps? should i create snapview session?

Any help would be really appreciated

i also assume  you created a Reserved LUN Pool (needed for SnapView snapshots)

Do you have "VNXSnapshots" installed on your array ? (right click on array, properties, Software tab). You could use VNX Snaps for pool LUNs. Also while you are looking at Software, is SnapView listed as Active ?

After i press "Create Snapshot" the Snapshot now viewed under Data Protection > Snapshots > Luns Snapshots

so how could i know if that snapshots created also should i create snapview session?

Thanks

Hi,

please have a look at the documentation and white papers.

On the VNX there are currently two different block snapshot implementations.

The VNX Snapshots (sometimes called advanced snapshots) are the newer ones that use pools and redirect-on-write while SnapView is the older one that uses RLPs.

If you are using VNX Snapshots you don’t need a SnapView session
