Wiping Data on VNX & DD

Hi all, I would need to ship my EMC Storage out to another data centre. I would need to wipe the VNX and Data Domain before it leaves the data centre. I have a link here which places zero on the disk.

http://emcsan.wordpress.com/2011/10/03/how-to-scrubzero-out-data-on-a-decommissioned-clariion/

Model:

VNX5300

Data Domain 670

1) Can I follow the guide and do the same to both VNX & DD ? Is there other ways ?

2) How do I prove to my security team that all data have been wipe out ?

Vnx works fine with the procedure. You can check afterwards with an HDD dock.

DD won't work this way...

There is no guarantee there that really all blocks are getting zero’ed

For DD (if no certificate is needed):

filesys destroy

storage enclosure remove     -> this will remove enclosure so it can be added to a new system as well.

On dd there was an engineering command ... Can't remember for now... I guess the Easies way is to open a case

‘filesys destroy and-zero’ would be of more use then.

On the other hand, if the customer would like some proof no data is on there, I would suggest the customer would buy this service from EMC. You will use Blancco to do a DoD erase.

Thanks Nick, for the command line ... I'm sorry but I came from Netapp background ...

I try to SSH to the EMC but was unable to... Currently I'm connecting to the EMC with the Management Port and able to launch the Unisphere GUI.

Where do I issue the command line ? I'm really sorry but may need a step by step guide here ...

Command line is thru an off-arry CLI that you install on a Windows or Unix system

Just download the appropriate navicli from support.emc.com

If its a VNX with control station you can also use /nas/sbin/navicli
