how to get reports from VNX unified

hi at all,

we have our own customer portal.

in this portal we can show the performance, filesystem status, log file and anything else

at the moment, we only can do that for Data-Domain.

now we want to implementate the VNX and VNXe Systems too.

this are the informations we have to show:

- Config (IP-Address, Hostname etc.)

- Pool Status

- Filesystem Status

- Performance-data

- Events

- SHARES

we want to do that with a linux appliance, which will be installed at customer site, grab the informations and send it out per mail.

VNX M&R is not an option for us, with naviseccli we can only get informations about block.

Now my question is, are there any tools or scripts to get the informaitons that we want to have?

remote cli for file (control station)?

thanks for your help!

You can use Navisphere CLI and Analyzer to get what you want. You can search and download their Command Line Interface (CLI) Reference guides on support.emc.com.

Please refer to my previous posts for the details:

Before jumping into scripting I would suggest to download and try the VNX Management & Reporting Suite

It’s available from support.emc.com and comes with a 30 day trial license.

Maybe it covers what you need

hi Roger,

thanks for your answer, but with navicli i can`t get any information about CIFS/NFS Shares or Filesystems.

it is only for block (clariion) right?

Hi Rainer,

thanks for that information but we don`t want to use M&R, because we have to pay for that tool.

we are looking for a simple and free of cost way to get this informations.

so at the moment, we have to use the Control-Stations commands and put that into a script, but it is not the best way i think.

You can try SNMP, but I think you can only get some basic information, such as network stats, uptime, etc.

Hi,

I would suggest to talk to your sales guy – M&R is really inexpensive.

Going forward with the next generation VNX systems its actually included in mandatory management license.

If the control station CLI works for you – why change ?

For the file (NAS) side you could use the XML API and for block (SAN) side navicli

Yes there other API’s like SNMP or SMI-S but they don’t contain all of the info you are looking for.

If you are looking a free tool – try UniSphere Remote – also available from support.emc.com
