iSCSI for VNX 5300

Hi All,

We are using VNXe 5300 as a NAS.We configured CIFS on this VNXe box and used as a windows share/NAS. Basically this vnx is for file.

Now we want it to upgrade to use as Block(iSCSI).My concern is we need to add additional iSCSI module or HBAs on emc vnx box ?

We can use iSCSI initiator in windows servers but what I need to do on VNXe 5300.

Please help.

Thanks

First of, there is a big difference between VNX and VNXe.

Assuming that you have a VNX5300, you will have to ensure that you have iSCSI modules. Check in Unisphere under Settings -> Settings for Block

You will also have to ensure that you have a Unified VNX and not a File-only.

Other than that, you should be good to go.

Hi Jimmy,

I checked and found I have only SAS and Fiber type. Also we have VNX for file--only.

Whats the next step to have iSCSI modules and Unified VNX ?

Thank You.

Like Zeeshan says, contact your account/sales rep to get a File to Unified upgrade and iSCSI IO modules.

You will need to get a File to Unified upgrade for your VNX5300 system. Please contact your account/sales rep to discuss the procedure and options.
