VPlex metro for DR
In order to take advantage of active/active technology like VPlex Metro, it is a requirement that applications are cluster aware. Our two largest applications looking at DR are Vmware and Oracle (non-RAC). Unfortunately there are issues that have solutions, but come with extensive costs and complexity. Additionally, the business is requiring replication to continue throughout a DR Exercise that could last for multiple days, so a Timefinder BCV will be required. It would be great to hear your feedback on the following!
Environment connected with dark fiber (Cisco MDS ISL's):
Primary site -
VPlex VS1
VMAX
DR site-
VPlex VS1
VMAX
Applications:
Vmware - DR site uses different IP VLAN so without technology in place like Cisco OTV, vm guests would all need to be re-ip'd in order to start up and be used.
Oracle - Requires Oracle RAC that we currently do not have. Also, Oracle RAC stretched cluster is not officially supported with Vplex Metro. Coming very soon.
SQL - No issues using MSCS/SQL stretched clustering.
Options:
1. SRDF/S with Timefinder BCV's
2. Vplex Metro Active/(DR no-storage-view) - Vplex metro with disks at DR site not exposed to servers (no storage view created). Timefinder BCV's required to maintain replication during DR Test. BCV's are split and used for DR Test. Are BCV's supported with VPlex Metro and will this guarantee consistent state, etc?
3. SRDF/S, Vplex Metro and Timefinder BCV's. Basically a mixture of all three.

With the GA for GeoSynchrony 5.1, two considerations for your posting below:
1. VPLEX Metro is now certified for RAC by Oracle
2. With the release of the VPLEX native RecoverPoint splitter, VPLEX Local + RecoverPoint or if you want three site protection, VPLEX Metro + RecoverPoint is another option.
