esx not booting

Is anyone else having difficulty fetting the freshly installed esx server to boot up? i installed it, it rebooted but much to my dismay, it hangs on "vmkernel successfully loaded." i let the virtual esx sit overnight, came back in the morning, and it was still stuck. i have no idea where to start looking to solve this one. i am running vmware workstation e.x.p. build 91182, i did use esx 3.5 both from an .iso file on my drive and a burned copy. not sure what to make of it. as a side note, i have installed and configured openfiler properly and it is working great, so i must not be a complete idiot. please help.

Hello,

when reading your post I assume that you installed ewx 3.5 as virtual machine on vmware workstation , well for test enviroment if works fine (I`m usin it frequently) , please make sure that the cpu on the host supports VT (can be enabled in bios) and has 64 bit capabilites, a very good guide to implement ESX 3.5 on vmware workstation 6 or better 6.5 can be found at http://knowledge.xtravirt.com/white-papers/esx-3x.html , very good pdf`s worth to look at it, especially the http://knowledge.xtravirt.com/downloads/ESXonWKS65118166.pdf , at step 24 its descrbied to adjust the vmx file with the monitor_control.restrict_backdoor = “true”

Good luck, presently my "ESX infrastructure" , running on wks 6.5 with starwind as iscsi shared storage emulator runs nice on a xps 420 :) with 6600 quad and 4 gig ram, esx (esx3.5 and esx3.5) booting up in less a minute , but don`t do the same mistake like me and install windows 2003 server as vm directly on created , virtualized esx cluster ,better create vms on wks and import them, this will save a lot of time

Cheers
