McAfee VirusScan Plus

Just updated McAfee software to VirusScan Plus 2008. During the McAfee installation I was forced to uninstall Spybot Search & Destroy before I could complete the new install.  The message said Spybot S&D is incompatible with VirusScan Plus.

Anybody got any experience running both on their system? Or was this just scare tactics from McAfee to kill off their competitor's free software?

Thanks,
Ron

That is a known conflict:

According to this link, you can re-install Spybot after VirusScan Plus is installed, but you can't use the immunize function (which sort of renders Spybot less than useful).

Since I don't use McAfee, I don't know if it was ever resolved.

Joe,
Thanks for that link. I learned something today!

I did exactly the same thing as that person did. Had VirusScan 10 and Spybot 1.4 happily co-existing, until I updated to VirusScan Plus 2008.  Will try turning McAfee System Guard off while running Spybot.

Joe,
I installed Spybot v1.5 after loading VirusScan Plus and that went ok. I turned off McAfee SystemGuards and Spybot succesfully immunized the system. VirusScan didn't even make a peep when I reactivated SystemGuards, so all is well, at least until the next conflict. ;)

Thanks again!

Thanks for the feedback Ron.

Hope that continues to work!
