According to this link, you can re-install Spybot after VirusScan Plus is installed, but you can't use the immunize function (which sort of renders Spybot less than useful).
Since I don't use McAfee, I don't know if it was ever resolved.

I did
exactly the same thing as that person did. Had VirusScan 10 and Spybot 1.4 happily co-existing, until I updated to VirusScan Plus 2008. Will try turning McAfee System Guard off while running Spybot.

I installed Spybot v1.5 after loading VirusScan Plus and that went ok. I turned off McAfee SystemGuards and Spybot succesfully immunized the system. VirusScan didn't even make a peep when I reactivated SystemGuards, so all is well, at least until the next conflict. ;)
