McCafee Virus Scan
HI.. I have an inspiron 8500.. My MCAFFEE Virus scan has expired. I just got the Norton Full version Antivirus program.. Is it a good idea to uninstall the mccaffee and install the norton? Will i have any problems?

Yes, it is imperative that you do uninstall McAfee before you install Norton Antivirus. Do the McAfee uninstall through Add/Remove. They do NOT work well together, IMO.
Be sure and get the NAV virus updates after you have done the install. Norton updates every Wednesday and then periodically other days when new issues arise in order to get the latest protection for your system. It is best when setting up Norton to have it run the live update automatically.

Memory is a little vague since it has been about 6 months since I took McAfee off of my I8500 and 4600. I used the add/remove to uninstall but I had never run the program, took it off both systems immediately after getting them and installed NAV 2003 on each.
Seems like the McAfee had a two part uninstall in the Add/Remove, i.e., Security Center removed first, then I believe the second one was called Personal Firewall, or something along that line. Sorry to be vague, but it has been a while since taking McAfee off.
You should not run into any problems. Just be sure to remove everything in the Add/Remove area that deals with McAfee. Reboot your system. then do the NAV install. Be sure that you have XP's firewall enabled, or using some other type of firewall, since you are removing McAfee's.

Hi.. thanks for the reply.
So I just simply do Add/Remove and then install the norton? Ok.. i hope it works cuz i read somewhere that some people had some major problems when installing norton with Mcaffee..

I could not uninstall the virus scan online. I could not find it. I followed the instructions and this is what I have whe I go to start, programs, McAfee, McAfee virus scan, then across from McAfee virus scan it says; Active shield, create rescue disk, manage quarantined files and scan for viruses.
No Where can I find McAfee Virus Scan Online. And according to the McAfee site I have McAfee virus scan online but it is not anywhere to be found the way they say it is. Is anyone having trouble finding this as well? By the way, I tried to install Norton 2004 and it would not install. I kept getting an error message. I had to reinstall McAfee.
