Trying to get rid of trojans

Recently I was surfing the net when NAV popped up and said that it had detected several "viruses" It listed them as:

Dummy.class is infected with Trojan.horse

VerifierBug.class is infected with Trojan.Byte.Verify

archivement.jar

Sorry, did not know that pressing enter at the end of the sentence sent the message!  But to continue: archivem.jar is infected with Trojan.StartPage, Trojan ByteVerify (2 times) and Trojan.horse. Also it says that MSupdater and    a[1].css is infected with dowloader.Trojan. I quarantied the files as NAV suggested, followed the steps for removal ie shutting off system restore, starting in safe mode, update def. etc etc. I deleted the files from the quarantine, ran another scan and detected nothing. restarted my computer in regular mode and ran a scan again with no results. I went back onto the net and noticed that my home page was different and some links that I clicked on sent me to XXX sites, ran a scan with no results. I reset my home page and restarted the computer. Got back onto the net and everything seemed like it was working fine, my home page came up but still some links sent me to XXX sites. Ran a scan with no results. Restarted my computer and got back on the net with my home page different again and NAV said it detected the trojans. I found the files dummy class, downloader, etc in the temp internet folder and deleted them from there instead of going through NAV again. I also did a windows update and reloaded explorer hoping that would solve the problem, but it didn't.  I also noticed that when I did the windows update that an icon "safe hardware removal" popped up in the bar at the lower right. Not knowing what this was I tried to delete it but it won't let me. Is this another component of the trojan's?  . I thought I deleted them, but still I keep getting a different home page and XXX sites when I click on links at times and NAV can't find anything and I've searched the temp internet files and can't find anything there either. How can I stop this once and for all?

On my site (Link Below) try the AV section and one of the online virus checkers, such as housecall.

If that does not work try the malware route.
Spybot S&D
Cwshredder

Failing those solving your problems try one of the spyware problem sites listed by me on my site, I am in all those sites as ChrisRLG.

Post your hijackthis log for the experts to advise.
HijackThis From Here
You might get me, but any of the more problematic ones are handled by the experts. If you get a 'advanced member' like me, we have other ways of asking for advice from the experts, to pass on to you.

You could post your log here in this thread and I will have a go at giving advice, but if you go to one of the more specalist sites more experts will be able to help.

I can't seem to find the Virus board in which you advise posting my HackThis analysis.

I tried the other scans but I am still having problems Here is what I came up with:

If you don't know I will ask some experts.

I did like you instructucted, however I did not see:

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = about:blank

when I opened hackthis and was ticking everything.

plus  I restarted my computer and deleted the files c\program files\comet and c\programfiles\mybar, but I could not find:

c:\program~1\common~2\addres~1\winnet.exe

I restarted the computer, ran hijackthis:

Unless this is what you want for start/search pages - fix these (as before)

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://www.idgsearch.com/
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://www.idgsearch.com/
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://www.idgsearch.com/
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch = http://www.idgsearch.com/iec
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = http://www.idgsearch.com/ie

Otherwise you are clean now.

To keep yourself clean, follow the link below to my site and install, spywareblaster and spywareguard. On sets kill bits to stop known bad activeX controls from being run. The other runs like your anti-virus, and should stop home/search page hijacks in the future. Also read the 'why did I get infected in the first place' link.

Well Hondavee4

First, start a new thread we can't mix up dif machines in the same thread, they are all dif and it confuses, it only need the original poster to come back with more problems, and I could give wrong advice when comparing logs.

Second, your version of hijackthis is two versions old, a new one came out Sunday v1.975, download a new one and rescan.

I assume that you have already run updated version of these :-.
Spybot S&D
Cwshredder

I would also ask that you post on one of the spyware problem sites listed by me on my site, I am in all those sites as ChrisRLG. I am currently very busy with other things and each of these logs can take up to an hour to checkout.

If you get a 'advanced member' like me, we have other ways of asking for advice from the experts, to pass on to you.

You could post your log here in this thread and (when I am available) I will have a go at giving advice, but if you go to one of the more specalist sites more experts will be able to help.
