Avast! Version 4.8, build 1351

August 17, 2009 (looks like it was actually released yesterday)

• improvements in some unpackers (WinExec, Installers, Droppers)
• various fixes and improvements in the scanning engine
• Standard Shield: stability improvements in the kernel-mode drivers
• preparations for smoother migration to v5 (when it's released [ETA:  October... for more information, see http://blog.avast.com/2009/07/20/avast-5-is-coming-soon/ ])

Note:  Assuming my experience was typical, a REBOOT is required. 

Note:  If you're not set for automatic PROGRAM updates [which is a separate setting from automatic DATABASE updates], you can manually request this update by RIGHT-clicking on the Avast! A-ball in your system tray, select UPDATING, and then PROGRAM UPDATE
