What is the best antivirus?

What is the best antivirus for windows vista? I don't care if it cost I just want the greatest antivirus out there that will work with windows vista.

Is AVG professional edition 7.5 is good?

Hi,
AVG is the right choice and is the best when compared to Symantec or McAfee antivirus programs.  AVG supports with good features and value for money. Please check the following link to know more on the features of the AVG Pro 7.5v ...

Both AVG 7.5 Pro and Free versions work with Vista. As do all avast! versions. Note that the free versions protect you just as well as their paid counterparts- all you are paying for is tech support, which you probably could get just as easily in the free user forums for both products.

If you insist on paying money, I would recommend Nod32:

Yes you have lots of choices. I now use NOD32 on six PC's and have never had a problem with a virus and Eset's NOD32.

NOD32 works with VIsta, however, my PC's are all running WIN XP with SP-2 so I have no first hand info on NOD32 with the VISTA OP SYS.

You can buy it or try it for 30 days free. Very easy to remove if you do not like it. At a minimum take a look at their WEB site and review the information. I don't think you will have any problems with NOD32 and will find it is one of the best performers.

Nice homework, Bugbatter!

davejohn:

VB's June/06 ratings (the latest available for XP) might not apply to Vista, which was the OP's concern: this OS has yet to be tested by VB. Furthermore, this site basically tests lab detection rates, not other factors such as ease of use, system slowdown, software conflicts, or ease of uninstallation.

I note that all the following AV's get VB's "100%" approval for XP:
Avast!
AVG
Avira
Bitdefender
CA
Nod32
F-secure
Kaspersky
McAfee
Norton

Well, I see at least 2 products in that list I would never allow again on my system! There is, of course, no "best" AV, although I'm reminded of the following definition:

"The best AV is the one that works well for you, that you keep religiously updated".

Tested a few weeks ago but maybe they have changed it? Kaspersky Internet Security 2006 - 32/64 Bit was okay, but Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 (32-64 bit) had an incompability problem with Vista. After the setup started, an incompability error appeared, so the setup could not continue and program could not be installed.
