csrss.exe

I am using Inspiron 6000 WinXP Media edition...and found only one csrss.exe running. ive heard of virus's disguising itself as this file so i searched files and found one to be in the system 32 folder, and the other in C:/i386. im not too sure about the second one. anybody else have this file? ive already searched on google about this and cant find a clear answer.

thanks:)

Nah, my system has it and I just reinstalled the other day, it's a safe task, if it were a virus you would probably see something like this.

csrss.exe
csrs.exe

Or something to that extent the one C:/i386 <- there is just a backup file incase there is an incident and you delete it.

Use Kapersky to scan it just to be safe.

Just because norton didn't detect anything doesn't mean anything isn't there, my Anti-Virus Personal can detect things that norton doesn't think are viruses. So scan it just to make sure, but it's still highly unlikely that it's a virus.

well i tried but its a folder and not just one file. *has like a bunch of graphics stuff like cursors and other things in it* but if the i386 came up on your comp too then i think its fine.

Since it's cursors don't delete it.

csrss.exe is the main executable for the Microsoft Client/Server Runtime Server Subsystem. This process manages most graphical commands in Windows. This program is important for the stable and secure running of your computer and should not be terminated.
