i seem to have some sort of worm i'll call it, it is eating my music files, replacing name of file with squares

if anybody can help i would appreaciate it??   so far i have only seen this when working with my music files,   for instance i open a file named pearl jam, in it one of the albums has changed names to these squares, i get a syntax error upon trying to drop and drag...   i dont see anything in the file, but properties says it has size...NOT EMPTY    i am not sure how to go about this???  as we speak music files are bieng chewed up by this and i have a lot of money tied up in those files....   please help??
