Hi, Chris,

Please download the latest version of VundoFix.exe to your desktop. (If you have an earlier version, delete it and its old log here: C:\ vundofix.txt.)
  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.

  • Click the Scan for Vundo button.
  • Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
  • You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files,
  • click YES
  • Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing
  • Vundo.
  • When completed, it will prompt that it will shutdown your computer,
  • click OK.
  • Turn your computer back on.


  • Download and scan each user profile with CCleaner:
    http://www.ccleaner.com/download/builds
    ** Select to download the BASIC version.
    1. Before first use, select Options > Advanced and UNCHECK
    " Only delete files in Windows Temp folder older than 48 hours"
    2. Then select the items you wish to clean up.
    In the Windows Tab:
    • Clean all entries in the "Internet Explorer" section
    • Clean all the entries in the "Windows Explorer" section.
    • Clean all entries in the "System" section.
    • Clean all entries in the "Advanced" section.
    • Clean any others that you choose.
    In the Applications Tab:
    • Clean all in the Firefox/Mozilla section if you use it.
    • Clean all in the Opera section if you use it.
    • Clean Sun Java in the Internet Section.
    • Clean any others that you choose.
    3. Click the " Run Cleaner" button.
    4. A pop up box will appear advising this process will permanently delete files from your system.
    5. Click " OK" and it will scan and clean your system.
    6. Click " exit" when done.
    REBOOT.

    Please post the contents of C:\ vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log.

Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not
remove.
In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above
instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button." when VundoFix appears at reboot. ** If you get a warning about updating Java, do not do so until I can give you further instructions.

completed tasks as instructed, will post new HJT log. Under CCleaner, I also had the registry fixed, was this action ok?

Chris, please post your logs from VundoFix and HijackThis in this thread. There are no instructions for running the Registry Issues component of CCleaner in my post above. In order to fix your problem, I ask that you follow all instructions as given. When you run other tools on your own it can interfere with our fixes, take longer to diagnose problems, and may actually cause damage. I understand that you want to resolve the problem as soon as possible, but these clean-ups never are a one-shot deal.

As soon as your logs are posted below, we can continue. Thanks.

Thanks for posting the log. We have more to do.

Please download Combofix from here:
http://www.techsupportforum.com/sectools/sUBs/ComboFix.exe
** Take note that the link is case sensitive

Save ComboFix to the desktop.

1. Double click on combo.exe & follow the prompts.
2. When finished, it will produce a logfile located at C:\ComboFix.txt.
3. Post the contents of that log in your next reply with a new HijackThis log.

Note:
Do not mouseclick Combofix's window while it is running. That may cause your system to stall/hang.
Do not proceed with the rest of the fix if you fail to run ComboFix.

I downloaded the program as instructed; however, upon initiating, I get the following message:
 
Freeware implementation of REG.EXE. has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience etc. etc. etc.
 
This pop up occurs each time I close it and will not allow the ComboFix to run....
 
Let me know what you think.

Let's try this...

1. Please download The Avenger by Swandog46
from here: http://swandog46.geekstogo.com/avenger.zip
Download it to your Desktop.

* Click on Avenger.zip to open the file
* Extract avenger.exe to your desktop

2. Copy all the text between the dotted lines below to your Clipboard (Do not copy the dotted lines -- just the text.):

Note: the above code was created specifically for this user. If you are not this user, do NOT follow these directions as they could damage the workings of your system.

3. Now, start The Avenger program by clicking on its icon on your desktop.

* Under "Script file to execute" choose "Input Script Manually".
* Now click on the Magnifying Glass icon which will open a new window titled "View/edit script"
* Paste the text copied to clipboard into this window
* Click Done
* Now click on the Green Light to begin execution of the script
* Answer "Yes" twice when prompted.

4. The Avenger will automatically do the following:

* Restart your computer. ( In cases where the code to execute contains "Drivers to Unload", The Avenger will actually restart your system twice.)
* On reboot, briefly open a black command window on your desktop, this is normal.
* After the restart, create a log file that should open with the results of Avenger’s actions. This log file will be located at C:\avenger.txt
* The Avenger will also have backed up all the files, etc., that you asked it to delete, and will have zipped them and moved the zip archives to C:\avenger\backup.zip.

5. Please copy/paste the content of avenger.txt into your reply along with a fresh HJT log by using Reply.

Let me know if you are still experiencing symptoms of malware.

For some reason my computer wont even pull up the desk top and Im getting a blank screen with a message stating, Isass.exe- Operation Failed. The requested operation was unsuccessful.
 
Your help in this matter is greatly appreciated.

I noticed that when it restarts thier is a noise from inside the cabinet as if the hard drive is "kicking in" or engaging.

no, I sent some email for grad school. then went to the dell forum and was going to save the dell community thread to favorites and it locked up. I attempted to end task the function to no avail. then I manually shut it down and now I get the aforementioned.

Have you tried running System Restore in Safemode? You fixed some Registry issues on your own a few days ago. I have no way of knowing what was changed.
