Vostro 220, BIOS update via SupportAssist issue?

Hi,

I have a Dell Vostro 220 that I am trying to update the BIOS with to version 1.3.0 via Window 10.

The issue is the on the Status field it saying loading with the animated dots (...)

Any suggestions on how to resolve.

My concern is killing the machine with a half updated BIOS.

Any suggestions on how to resolve?

Thanks,

Ward

Hi 68cutlass,

Thanks for your response. I guess the issue is that I am now in Windows 10.

Can I safely end the program and restart.

Or does the utility - actually try an update on reboot.

So not sure on how to get out of current state,

Thanks,

Ward

I'd download the bios from the dell support site. Right-click and unblock, then right-click run as administrator.

Make sure a/v and any malware programs are disabled. I've updated a gang of vostro 220 to latest bios without issue but in windows 7 before the 10 upgrade.

I've never used support assist. First thing I uninstall if I'm not doing a wipe and fresh install.

I'm guessing that you probably don't have much choice after waiting an hour or two. Bios updates usually only take a few minutes.

Maybe it would be best to end task on it before rebooting. Also, you might try ending any av and other processes prior to killing the bios update/support assist that is hanging and see if that might help it complete.

Right-click your taskbar and choose task manager. Choose more details and see what you could stop.

I recently purchased an old Dell Vostro 220. I am using Windows 10, 1903. I tried for two days to update the bios. I found this video on Youtube- "How to Upgrade a Dell Motherboard's Bios using a USB Drive"  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=21vsSne-NtQ

I followed the instructions and successfully updated the bios. I hope this helps.

The 220 does not support windows 10 or the current support assist software.

This system is a NON UEFI system that supports XP / Vista / and Windows 7.

There are no windows 10 drivers for this system AND no 64 bit drivers for this system.

That means you have to use drivers from other models for Audio and Video etc.

Not supported with windows 10 does not mean not working just that its not supported.  Windows vista or 7 drivers are what to use.
