Vostro 230, BIOS version is 1.5.0 but latest is 1.4.0?
I went to upgrade one of the 230 PCs I support and found it had a BIOS version 1.5.0 but the latest Dell offer is 1.4.0. The PC was purchased as 'used' so I don't know where this version 1.5.0 came from. The start-up splash screen takes several minutes to complete which I'd like to fix. I've tried re-setting the BIOS thru the usual routes but doing an F2 still shows it as 1.5.0 and I know of no way you can downgrade.

From what I can tell from a German site, the 1.5.0 is not an official Dell BIOS version. Others have downloaded it from a 3rd party site but I would not recommend it. The following might help.

Dell 7N90W, JL1117, MIG41R, Vostro 230/230s Mini Tower Systems V230 V230s Motherboard Intel G41
These are fairly common. Not worth fixing IMHO.

You can get a working system for very little.
