Hi, I need your help with an vostro 230, service tag ; I want to upgrade to 4 gb.

The desktop has 2 gb now, the memory is this:

https://www.amazon.com/M378B5673EH1-CH9-Samsung-1333mhz-PC3-10600U-Desktop/dp/B00DUG5M0E

Reading system configuration in dell support web, I saw this:

TW149

DUAL IN-LINE MEMORY MODULE, 1G, 1333, 128X64, 8, 240, 1RX8

I Searched for motherboard model number, the model is MIG41R M/B and in http://www.findlaptopdriver.com/specs-mig41r-mb-dell/  says:

CPU

Processor Support Socket LGA 775, Intel Core 2 Duo Quad, Core 2 Dual-Core, Pentium Dual-core, Celeron.

FSB
1333/1066/800 MHz
Chipset
North Bridge – Intel G41
South Bridge – Intel ICH7
Integrated Graphics
Intel GMA X4500
Memory

 2 x 240-pin DDR3 DIMM slots Supports Dual Channel DDR3 1333/1066 MHz non-ECC , un-buffered memory (Max 4GB)

I bought this memory: http://www.techdna.co.uk/products/Team-Group-4GB-DDR3-DIMM.html

But I inserted it in the desktop dimm's module, I turned it on and I heard 3 beeps ...

I checked the compatibility; I don't know why doesnt work. May be the maximum memory supported was 4 gb but in both modules.. any ideas?

Sorry for the english, is not my native language (I'm from chile)

Hi Chileancaro,

The Vostro 230 supports up to 4GB of memory total in either 4GBx1 or 2GBx2 so if you installed the 4GB DIMM along with another you would get that beep code.

If you installed the 4GB DIMM only and have tried both slots then most likely its the memory that is at fault.

Thanks,
