Cisco Top of Rack - VxRail

Is there a top of rack option from Cisco for VxRail?

VxRail work with compatible Cisco switches, but none are currently sold through EMC. Please work with a parter to buy a Cisco switch if you desire one.

Yes, We use CISCO NEXUS switches 3172TQ.   We followed the CISCO NEXUS switch configuration guide for VSPEX BLUE. For redundancy we connect four VxRail to two ToR switches.

Jason -

any help would be appreciated.

I have a nexus 3548 and cannot get our VXRAIL to pass validation.

getting messages stating :

'The connection to host can not be established

and

Failed communicating with host using IP fe80:

We are under the impression that this is because the Nexus 3Ks do not support IPv6 multicast .

You have a 3k and curious as to any multicast configurations made to get yours working.

Thanks!

Did you make sure that VxRail was plug in a switchport mode trunk.

For example if you  plug you VxRail into interface Ethernet 1/48

Description VxRail

Switchport mode trunk

switchport trunk native vlan 10"

we also create an interface for vlan10"

Jason,

Thanks for the quick response.

Our ports facing the vxrail are configured as you have shown. Except for

the native vlan. We do not have a native vlan configured.

Hello Jason, we are using nexus 3172, any issue with the IPv6 multicast part for the VSAN? how did you do that part?

Here are the switch requirements in resume:

IPv6 Multicast Enabled on Management VLAN (for Deploymant & Node expansion)

IPv4 Multicast Enabled on vSAN VLAN (VMware VSAN requirement)

Both igmp snooping and qurier should be enabled or both disabled

Ports to VxRail - trunks with all VLANs for VxRail enabled on them. No port agregation.

In case there is no Native VLAN on the trunk (all VLANs are tagged), execute these on each VxRail Node:

esxcli network vswitch standard portgroup set -p "Management Network"  -v
esxcli network vswitch standard portgroup set -p "VM Network"  -v
/etc/init.d/loudmouth restart

Any gotyas or things to look out for?

We implemented with Nexus 3064 (as far as I know is running the same NX-OS) and we had no issue. The multicast is working fine.

Be aware to check the MTU. Our 3064's had 1500 by default.

Hi crististan ,

Thanks for that

I'm assuming that the 'Nexus 3000 LAN Enterprise License' is not required for IPV6 multicasting or for any other VXRail related requirements or components?
