Fix Dell Support Assist

Fix Dell Support Assist

How can I completely remove Dell Support Assist so I can perform a clean install because it is corrupted?

1. Uninstall from Program & Features does nothing - it goes through the motions and ends up still installed.

2. New Install errors with Installation cancelled.

Thanks.

If you want a "clean" install, download the Win 10 ISO from Microsoft using the "Media Creation Tool" and burn that to a disc or USB flash drive.  Use that to install Win 10.  Here is the procedure from the tenforums.com

https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/2376-create-bootable-usb-flash-drive-install-windows-10-a.html

If you install from the Dell recovery partition it will restore it to the original factory image which will include the Support Assistant.  Have you tried removing it with Revo Uninstaller Pro (you can download a free trial version) which also removes registry entries and any left over files in folders.

For anybody having trouble getting Dell Support Assist to work.
After two or three days trying to find why it was not working and the Technician could not help so he sent me a usb stick to reinstall Windows 10 which never worked.
Here is what I found Myself.
Go to Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Click, Computer Management Click, Services and Applications.
Click, Services, Starts Stops and Configures windows services.

Find ALL items in the Dell section, On each Item Right click, and choose Properties, Click, Start Type. Click, Auto(Delayed Start) Apply and O.K. Right Click again and click, Start.

Try This It worked for me. And Don’t forget to Register your Dell
Good Luck. Tom Walker.

Thanks Tom (@Sammycat 45)!

It resolved the problem at least temporarily. I can now run SupportAssist as long as I don´t answer Yes to the question about installing the updates for SA just after the application starts up. However, all my startup settings where all set to delayed start but not all of these where running, which is weird as one would expect Delayed Start to be sometime this century, or even 15 minutes after Windows 10 has started up, but no.

Maybe it will be of help for others so I will list the Dell services related to SA (at least on my Latitude E6430 running Win10 Pro):

-Dell Client Management Service
-Dell Data Vault Collector
-Dell Data Vault Processor
-Dell Data Vault Service API
-Dell Hardware Support
-Dell Support Assist

Cheers,
The Expat Viking

Steps are given below-

The Repair software option on the SupportAssist OS Recovery home page enables you to diagnose and troubleshoot common issues that may occur before your computer boots to the operating system. It checks and fixes the partition table, boot files, and the health of the Windows operating system.
Steps
On the SupportAssist OS Recovery home page, click Repair on the Repair software tile.
NOTE If software encryption is enabled on your computer, you are prompted to unlock your computer before you start the repair process.
Perform the following steps to unlock your computer:

Click NEXT on the page where instructions to unlock computer are displayed. The Microsoft account login page is displayed.
Enter the Microsoft account login email or phone number, and then click Next.
Enter the Microsoft account password, and then click Sign in.
Select the user phone number, enter the last four digits of the phone number, and then click Send code. A message with a verification code is sent to the phone number.
Enter the verification code in the Code field, and then click Verify. BitLocker recovery keys that are associated with your account are displayed.
Right-click and copy, or make a note of the recovery key applicable to your device, and click ENTER KEY.
Right-click and paste, or enter the recovery key in the Enter BitLocker recovery key field, and then click UNLOCK.
Your computer is unlocked.

Click START REPAIR.
The repair process starts, and the progress of repair is displayed.
If the issue is fixed successfully, the Everything's back to normal status is displayed. Click DONE.
If the issue cannot be fixed or if the repair is unsuccessful, an error message is displayed. Click RESET OPTIONS to reset the operating system of your computer. See Reset your computer.
