No Sound after updating to Windows 10 on Inspiron 14R 5420
I upgraded to Windows 10 on my Inspiron 14R 5420 laptop. Everything seemed to work except for the sound. No matter what I tried, I could not get the sound to work. Troubleshooting in Windows said that the sound card driver was up to date. When I tried to play a test sound, however, I got an error message saying that the "sound failed to play".
Has anyone had any success with Windows 10 on this machine?

JLH912015,
Dell has not confirmed that this product can upgrade to Windows 10. Some drivers, firmware, applications, and connected devices may not work as you would expect.

Are there plans to test this model for the Windows 10 upgrade sometime in the future?

Have you fixed it?

No, unfortunately, I was not able to fix it. I ultimately reverted back to Windows 8.1 because I had to do some work with the computer that needed the sound to work.

To get sound working on Inspiron 14R 5420:-
1) delete audio driver from device manager
2)go to dell support website
3)select drivers and downloads
4)under drivers and download select find it my self
5)change os to windows 8.1 64-bit
6)download the audio driver and restart.
It worked for me

Thanks for the advice. I have reverted back to Windows 8.1 because I needed to use the computer with sound. Do you know how difficult it is to reinstall Windows 10?

The Conexant sound driver currently on my laptop is version 8.54.40.0. Looking at the audio driver available on the Dell support website, it is also version 8.54.40.0, so it appears I have the latest driver. Do you know what version of the audio driver was installed on your laptop prior to installing the one from Dell?
