Where's my WIndows 10 1809 update?

My Lenovo 2 in 1 and my HP notebook both received the 1809 update.  Why hasn't it come in for my Dell Inspiron 660 desktop?

The only way to get this without the self destruct black screen of death is to make an 1809 usb flash drive.

Then copy the entire contents of the flash drive onto the DOCUMENTS folder for the machine then run setup as administrator on the local hard drive OFFLINE from the internet.  It will cycle several times then be updated to 1809.

Once there you can go back online and do windows updates.

Other than that there is no way to get there because this model is not supported by dell with windows 10.

Not supported doesnt mean not working just means not supported by Dell or microsoft.

They want you to be buying new hardware every 3 years.

"Other than that there is no way to get there because this model is not supported by dell with windows 10."

It had Windows 8 uploaded when I bought it, but it updated to Windows 10, and every Windows 10 update that's been rolled out without a problem.  Currently on 1803.  Why the problem now?

Sure this model is going to be compatible with 1809, even if it's running 1803 now? Some Dell models, eg XPS 8900 running 1803, don't want to install 1809.

Do you run iCloud on this PC? Microsoft was withholding 1809 from PCs running iCloud because of a problem that they had to work out with Apple. I don't know if that's been fixed, or not...

There was a button on this MS page labeled Update Now to force the update to 1809, but it's gone. So that makes me wonder if something is going on with forced updates. I force-updated my Dell laptop from 1803 to 1809 about a week ago using that button and it worked, but I don't know what might have changed to make MS remove that button after I used it.

Either way, I'd image the hard drive completely using something like Macrium Reflect (free) before updating to 1809, either via Windows Update or if MS puts the Update Now button back on that page, to be safe.

Using the copy to the documents folder method run as administrator I have been successful with offline FORCE UPDATES from 1803 clean install to 1809 without issue.

My xps 8900 is running 1809 now.

All OEM DRIVERS should be installed AFTER doing all updates including updating 1809 to the latest.

Trying the online update to 1809 does not start or work on many models.

The other parts are for specific games.

AKA visual C++ 2010 2012 2013 2015.

Directx June 2010

DOT NET 2.0 and 3.5

1809 REFUSES TO INSTALL DUE TO BUGS IN INTEL HD AUDIO.

There is currently NO WAY AROUND THIS other than the FORCE IT  install.

TRYING TO DOWNLOAD AND INSTALL ONLINE = self destruct black screen of death FOREVER.

FEATURE UPDATES like going from 1709 to 1803 or 1803 to 1809 tend to break a great many things including but not limited to USB3,  VIDEO, AUDIO, DIRECTX 9 10 11.  Visual C++.  DOTNET.  Directx June 2010 ETC.

You should clean install starting with 1803 then force update OFFLINE via the copy everything to the documents folder and then run SETUP.EXE as administrator and let it churn churn churn reboot churn churn churn reboot,

Then go online and install any updates to flash and and and and until update and security says there are no more reboots or updates needed.

Once you have restarted and gone online at LEAST 3 times.

THEN INSTALL OEM chipset and video and audio and directx and visual c++ and and and and and.

Then check for more updates.

Reboot etc.

ONCE ALL OF THIS IS DONE then reinstall your games one at a time and reboot between installs.

How about you download it from Windows update catalog and manually run it.https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/search.aspx?q=kb4470788 This will bring you up to date with the Feb 12 update.

If you want to go back to the first good release Nov 13th https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=KB4464455

Also, you can just download the latest from Media Creation tool just download the ISO to your desktop and right click it and select upgrade install keeping all files and software.
