Windows 10, can't import photos from iPhone
Anyone know a real solution to this?
I run the Windows Photo app, it detects the photos and videos on my iPhone, starts to export, then says "something went wrong, your files may not have imported"
I contacted Microsoft and they reinstalled the operating system, didn't work
I deleted the photos app and reinstalled it, didn't work
I upgraded IOS on my iPhone, didn't work
I bought an original apple usb cord, didn't work
I tried to sync with iTunes to get pics and vids from phone to PC via itunes, didn't work
Called Dell and they wanted $350 to talk to me about fixing the broken computer they sent me, saying it's a software issue. Doesn't seem to be a software issue because all the software has been reset.
I feel this issue is so simple that it will never be fixed because it hasn't by now. ugh.

"Something went wrong. Your files might not have been imported"
If you get this message, there’s a way to solve it without giving up and having to end up buying something to import your photos from iPhone to the PC.
Go to you’re iPhones settings, scroll down to - Photos - scroll down to - TRANSFER TO MAC OR PC - which most likely is set to - Automatic - all you have to do is switch it to - Keep Originals - and that should solve the problem. To be safe, close the apps you have running by pressing the home button twice and swiping up, then plug in your iPhone cord to the USB of your PC, allow your phone to trust the computer, and choose to imort your photos to computer.
P.S. make sure once it begins to import that your cord doesn’t move around or accidentally unplug, the photos that were importing will still be imported but you will receive the same message again, and will just have fix the cord and re-import the photos that had not been imported (the app will automatically select them for you)
Hope this helps because it certainly worked for me.
Additional information: App used to import - Windows Photo App
Phone - iPhone8
Windows version - Windows 10

@cmaac anyone know a real solution to this?
Why don't you use Windows File Explorer?
Plug your phone into USB
When prompted "Allow this device to access photos and videos" . . . choose "Allow"
Open Windows File Explorer and you should be able to find your iPhone in the directory
'copy & paste' or 'move' photos from there

I've never used those Apps, or done it that way.
I use the iCloud for Windows app.

I appreciate the response but why should I need to do a kludgy workaround? If I wanted to do everything manually I’d not have paid for a Dell / windows and be running Linux.
and there are system files in that folder with data for edited pictures, I’d also assume once deleted from my phone new picture files would be named the same as the previously transferred file, which would cause an organization issue

@cmaac . . . but why should I need to do a kludgy workaround?
Because it works . . . contrary to everything you have tried??

My point is I paid for the computer and didn't get what I paid for. And it may work, but I have to deal with the challenges and disorganization I mentioned. I've been a dell and windows guy for 25 years, windows used to work and dell used to be known for it's support. Neither are true anymore, they're charging thousands of dollars and the products they send have defects they don't have the resources to correct, and people like us are left trying to figure our way around said defect

ITunes for windows 7 drivers are required.
Its not supported with windows 10 so you have to install the old drivers.
iTunes 12.1.2 is the last version to work with Older Iphones direct links to the installers as follows:
Quicktime 7 isn't supported in 10 but it works.
If you still need this legacy plug-in, you can add it back using the custom setup option in the installer.

IOS 13 and up uses newer version of Itunes from the microsoft store
