My Dell going in a Loop without updating and not updating

My Dell app is NOT updating and can not be used . Tried to use My Dell but it ask for an update and then when I agree it starts the process and keeps asking again and again if I want to update . So far Dell support was good only in suggesting what I should buy more from them rather than providing useful hints and solutions

I was told to update the fusion app to 2.0.38.0 , restart computer and try again. that DID not work. Dell support had no immediate solution. This is not rtight.

I've had the same update failed problem, was in contact with support and had to find a solution by myself. It seems Fusion/My Dell is bundled with incompatible vc_redist libs - or some other program installed such version. I uninstalled the Fusion service.

1. Extracted the Fusion Service installer 2.0.38.0 from the download (may not be necessary when next step is done)

2. Downloaded the latest supported vcredist (I used x64) from Microsoft: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/cpp/windows/latest-supported-vc-redist?view=msvc-170

3. Install latest Fusion and Reboot

"My Dell" app finally started the service without the "update required"-loop and runs like before. It seems the "NO_DOWNGRADE" was related to vcredist where he error log from the extracted installer showed some problems related to vcredist.

It seems, that this update problem is occurring again.

My Dell is showing the update dialog in a loop. When I wanted to uninstall Fusion Service to re-install it manually, I saw that version 2.1.31.0 was installed. I went to the Dell support page of my device to download it and install it, but I can only get version 2.0.58.0.

I have the same problem on my XPS 9305 running Windows 11. I already reinstalled Fusion Service and My Dell mutiple times and restarted my machine. To me it seems like the Fusion Service or its installer itself is faulty. The now installed version is 2.1.31.00, the previous version was 2.0.58.00. However, the Dell support site still indicates that 2.0.58.00 is the latest version, as mentioned.

The problem: Even if you uninstall My Dell and the upgraded Fusion Service (v.2.1.31), install the older Fusion Service and reinstall My Dell, My Dell will prompt you to upgrade the Fusion Service or will unavoidably close the app. Hence, unless Dell fixes the Fusion Service executable, we're robbed of the functionalities provided by My Dell.

It's now up to Dell to fix it.

The upgrade loop issue seems to be reappearing since January 2023. Unfortunately, this workaround does not fix the issue this time. I tried it multiple times on my XPS 9305 running Windows 11 without success.

I can confirm the same problem on my XPS 9720 with Windows 11.
Any manual deinstall/ install from FusionService or vc_redist results in no success.
The log always complains:

[Tue Jan 10 16:34:30 2023] Vendor Software Return Code: 1638
[Tue Jan 10 16:34:30 2023] logo.png
[Tue Jan 10 16:34:30 2023] Name of Exit Code: NO_DOWNGRADE
[Tue Jan 10 16:34:30 2023] Exit Code set to: 8 (0x8)
[Tue Jan 10 16:34:30 2023] Result: FAILURE
[Tue Jan 10 16:34:37 2023] Open file: C:\ProgramData\Dell\UpdatePackage\Log\Fusion-Service_MH5MF_WIN_2.0.38.0_A00.txt

The My Dell App is currently not usable for me.

Same problem here with XPS 9315.....

The solution provided in direct messages is

1) uninstall Alienware Command Center (on an Inspiron Laptop, which had it was installed)

2) a clean Windows install.

Thanks, but  no thanks

*which never had it installed

My personal solution is to remove My Dell and install Dell Power Manager, to change power behavior and fan noise

I have the same issue on XPS 9710. Recently it prompted me to update the app, which fails. I deleted both the Fusion service and My Dell app and reinstalled both.
The fusion service downloaded from the Dell Support website has version 2.0.58.0. The My Dell app downloaded from the Microsoft store is version 2.1.8.0.
When launching the app after the fresh install it again prompts for a mandatory update. It updates the fusion service to version 2.1.31.0, but it keeps requiring an update (loop).
In short: the My Dell app no longer works.

Same issue here. Brand new Inspiron 16, all updates ran successful but My Dell than reclaims an outstanding Update and goes in a loop to reclaim it always. I reinstalled My Dell and Fusion Service but no success.

How to resolve this?

Reinstalling Windows can't really be a serious solution to the problem!
Dear Dell support, I think it's up to you to find a solution for the confusion with the “fusion.exe” versions 2.0.58.0 and 2.1.31.0 and to implement the whole thing in the context of the app "My Dell"!
Thank you.
