Aurora R4 Windows 8.1 Issues
This issue is solved by installing the newest command center 3.5.

Hope this helps you all.
Hi,
I recent upgraded my Windows 8 to 8.1 on my Aurora R4 which is bought in April 2013. After the upgrade, I found several issues:
1. SecureBoot is not configured as shown in the desktop.
So I enable it in BIOS and choose mode Standard. Looks fine to me.
2. AlienFX doesn't work any more.
No lights or blink on my desktop anymore. And after I shutdown the computer, the Alien Logo blink with red & orange light which is not my AlienFX theme.
I believe I'm not the only one: http://en.community.dell.com/owners-club/alienware/f/3746/t/19528731.aspx
3. Thermal Controller doesn't work as well.
This is the most annoying one. If I choose Auto( Alien Control ) in thermal controller, the PCI Fan & Hard Drive Fan will keep at 100% and make a loud noise. So right now I change it Manual( User Control ). But it still make a loud noise during booting ( Whole time booting from I push the button to the windows desktop shown up until the thermal controller start up, not just 3 or 4 seconds at the beginning as before ) and shutting down.
Could you provide us some updates of AlienFX & Thermal Controller to make them compatible with Windows 8.1 ASAP?
Thanks
daddyz

my motherboard brick! when i run the bios update , the pc freeze and restart. The next restart the pc just go silence.
Thats is after 1 year 2 month my aurora r4 died. All this is because dell did not properly release thedriver update that works on
all aurora. after numerous attempt to find away to have a correct way install, uninstalling, fail. Tried to run os setup again also fail.
then tried to follow our dear forum member advise, the system freeze during the bios update.
If its hardware failure i understand, butit is not. The system work fine on win8. Meaning there is no hardware failure cause the command centre not working.
its the win 8.1 did not compatible with command centre driver. When they finally release the driver update, it is not working on my aurora. And why the pc freeze during bios update? No idea.
If dell dont care, guess this is a reminder for me and to anybody that i know that maybe it is better to build own rig. This is the 1st and last of buying so called sophisticated hardware.

I'm really sorry to hear what just happened to you...
You could try to clear the CMOS to see if you can get back the BIOS screen.
I found this thread that might be helpfull:

sometimes the cc works sometimes it doesn't if i unplug ity it will read the mio and work till i restart the computer. and sometimes it will read the mio but will say im not useing the right system in alienfx saying i am useing aurora instead the aurora r3. it reads the mio board in the diagnostic outside windows well if i drain the power before i start up. so i jsut deal with the fact thqat i drain all the power before i start it. and if it boots up and at least starts my fans i leave it like that. i thought i was paying extra to have cool lights on my nice alienware desktop but i guess for the money i spent i coulda bought parts and built a better one that didn't have cool lights on it but hey i don't have any lights anyways ty very much dell. but it's time for me to get a new one so this junk peice *** be up for sale im gonna be up for sale build my own this time.

i will never buy another alienware due to the issues i keep having with the command center. i mena it wouldn't be so bad if it was jsut the lights but it runs all my fans my cpu pump everything. and i have been dealing with this workjing and not working for 4 yrs now waiting to see if dell/alienware would make a fix and they don't very disaapointing we pay extra money to buy a good product and this is what we get.
