I also had this problem after updating to windows 8.1. Even after re-installing all the drivers it didn't work properly, so i reset the power configuration that controls the hibernation and sleep settings, and now it is working as it should be. What i did was:
After this my dell inspiron 17r 5737 worked perfectly with hibernation/ sleep mode. Hope this helps to solve your problem.

Yes, this totally solve this problem.
Also this fix solves the fast startup issue cause by the new (latest) AMD catalyst drivers.
Thanks

Hello,
I've found solution for Inspiron 5537 on Polish website Dell Support:
http://www.dell.com/support/troubleshooting/pl/pl/pldhs1/kcs/kcsarticles/articleview?docid=653261_pl
I'm still testing this solution (Win 8.1) and generally it works on my Inspiron 5537 - laptop goes sleep and wakes up, but sometimes after wakes up system is freeze for 1 min. and starts dump memory. :emotion-6:

Hello,
I stuck at " for the Intel HD Graphics 4400, choose "previous version" and download version 10.18.10.3277, A00"
When I go looking for it I see "Other file formats available" instead of "other versions available" that version is not listed underneath there.
On Other file formats available I only see "
Intel HD Graphics 4400 Driver:
Version 10.18.10.3308,A01
Other file formats
Download

I confirm that the solution proposed by KRAKERS_PL works. Although officially approved by Dell, it still seems as a kind of guerilla-IT. Replacement of the up-to-date driver by an old one... Well, the first bad experience with Dell. I will remember it.

I am installing diver updates from Dell Support for both the AMD and Intel graphics driver.. Will I be able to make the laptop sleep or hibernate if the lid is closed??
Do reply as soon as possible.

@KRAKERS_PL I am trying your method as i also have encountered the same problem. So say if your method did not work for my lap, So how should I rollback to previous versions of both Intel and AMD drivers.
Will notify if your method works,, Download started

You will, but those drivers are totally useful in graphic... With them i was able to run start menu of Max Payne 3 at 2/3 fps...
Do not downgrade BIOS and maybe try some of the other solution posted here...
You can also try to reset "power up", "shut down"...manager or something...

The internal accelerated GPU inside Dell 17r model 5737 is an AMD/Radeon 8870M HD,
thus it is from HD8800 series indeed.

If you install 14.4 driver the HD 8800 series become an R9 270...
