Hi Rahul,

Welcome to Dell Community Forum.

Please run the Windows 8 Upgrade Checklist prior to attempting to install Windows 8 on your computer. This will check your system thoroughly for compatibility issues. The Windows 8 Upgrade Checklist article discusses the critical steps that you should take before and after Windows 8 upgrade, such as backing up data, updating drivers prior to upgrade, and verifying that the system supports an upgrade to Windows 8.

You can access the same by clicking on the link below:

Hi Rahul,

Thank you for your reply.

Please click on the link below for an article which describes general troubleshooting of computers that are powering up correctly and passing the Dell BIOS screen at boot-up, but do not successfully boot to Microsoft Windows 8

For your DVD playback related query, Windows 8 and Windows 8 Pro do not  come with DVD movie playback capability however, you can check the link below for DVD playback options in Windows 8.

Please try to boot the computer in safe mode and disable any start-up items. It may be possible that there is an incompatible program which may need to be removed from start-up items. The Microsoft link below has steps for booting to Windows in Safe mode.

Lastly, we request that you share your system or personal information through private message only.

Let me know if further help is needed.

Thanks and regards,

Make sure you did not format the drive before booting to the win 8 disk or starting the installation. All the win 8 disks are upgrades and you must have windows 7 installed on the drive to update.

Make sure you did not format the drive before booting to the win 8 disk or starting the installation. All the win 8 disks are upgrades and you must have windows 7 installed on the drive to update.

The error you get after performing a clean install is a failure to activate. The solution is to "double-install" (without reformatting) and then to delete the archived first installation.
