windows 8.1 recovery problem and install dell backup and recovery software...
i had upgrade my windows to 8.1, the problem is that i cant install Dell backup & recovery, when i installing and updating PE I get FACTORY SETUP ERROR 5
is there any technical help me please...thx
however...its cant recovery or reset my laptop back to factory image...

I've had the same problem for months - have been working with tech support to find a solution. In the mean time, I've purchased a separate product for backups - I'm hoping to be able to retrieve the originals at some point.

I'm having this problem - "Factorysetup error 5". I've used
Backup-and-Recovery_Application_64M9D_WN32_1.8.1.71_A00
and a Win 8.1 running on a Inspiron 5523

It essentially means your recovery partition is corrupt.

I'm having a similar issue but mine is Factorysetup Error 6, instead of 5. I don't want to hijack a post so if anyone has any thoughts, I posted here for assistance.

hello sir,
i have the Precision M2800 (Service Tag: ). Had a problem starting my windows 10 a week ago. I did back up my hole drive data on an external hard drive using Dell backup software using USB Windows imaged copy I made before upgrading to Windows 10 back then. I recovered my OS and ran into my system and found the Dell recovery App. Tried to restore my data but the app can't sees it. Then I de-partition my only C segment into two partitions so I can have a separated partition for the OS only and I left the recovery partition as it is. installed the original windows 7 from the DVD and installed all the drivers from the dell support website. now I can't install the Dell Backup & Recovery software in it's all version. The latest version gives me the "factory setup error 2 " message and the two older versions show "factory setup error 5 " message! what can I do to retrieve my data?
