Active Desktop Recovery - Restore does not work; HELP

We had a thunderstorm during the night and the white screen appeared.  When I click on the "Restore" button, a  Internet Explorer Script Error screen pops up and says an error has occurred and asks if I want to continue running scripts on this page.  I have clicked on "Yes" and "No".  The result is the same...nothing.  I cannot get the desktop restored.  I did a system restore to yesterday but that did not help, either.  Can anyone help?
Thanks.

Thank you for your reply.  I am going to try your suggestion as follows, but I don't quite understand number '2':

1.    Start explorer

2.    Move to %systemroot%\Profiles\ \Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer

3.    Select Desktop.htt and delete (it is a hidden file so you will need to change the view first View - Folder Options - View)

4.    Close Explorer

5.    Right click on the desktop and choose Refresh

OK, in plain English  :smileyvery-happy:

1 Open Start > Control Panel > Folder Options

2 From View tab make sure Show hidden files & folders is selected, click OK

3 Open Windows Explorer (Right click Start, select Explore)

4 Click on the Internet Explorer folder (located by opening the following path)

C:\Documents & Settings\ \Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer

5 Select the file Desktop.htt & delete it

6 Close Windows Explorer

7 Right click on the desktop area & choose Refresh
