Boot\BCD problem - wont boot
Hardware:
Precision workstation T7400
two E5430 Weon procs
4x2Gb RAM
DVD + DVD+RW
Firegl 7600 GA ( replacement from NVS 290 )
160g samsung System HD ( standard from dell, with vista installation )
One RAID 1 matrix mounted on c:\data ( 2x 500Gb Western Digital )
One 500Gb WD HD mounted on c:\scratch
One spare 500Gb WD HD unformated
Operating System:
Windows Vista Business 64 + SP1 - Original Dellinstallation, upgraded to SP1 using microsoft IT download
Origin of the problem:
After a DVD burn went wrong, had to hard eject the DVD while beeing burned. DVD burning software did not answer anymore, so I soft rebooted
Vista wounldn't reboot, displaying a handfull of binary characters just after SAS controller startup.
Has just installed comodo firewall, but had not rebooted yet.
Already tried:
Boot on the rescue DVD.
no windows installation identified, click next
1) startup repair : no error message, but still don't reboot after that
looking at the logs, last item say no system was found
2) system restore
says impossibile to perform offline restore from the GUI, gives me the command line : rstrui /OFFLINE:c:\windows"
if i perform, i can restore to a point before the comodo installation
still don't reboot
3 ) after looking on the web, found some documentation on bcdedit and bootreg
bcdedit simply failed to perform anything
bootrec could find my windows installation on c:\windows but could not correct boot or bcd
according to microsoft KB note I renamed BCD and tried to regerate it but with no result. booting after that I had the 0xc0000034 error message
4 ) I trie creating a new bcd base with bcdedit, but that did not enable bootrec.
both dell and microsoft phone/chat support did not go further that "did you run the repair tool" then re install vista.
but If i only have a boot configuration problem, i do not want to re install vista, plus application for 30 hours straight
anyone can help on this ?
