Can't dual boot!!

I have XP installed and another partition on my hard drive with another OS on it and it installed perfectly to that partition and now when I boot to it, I get something like "boot0: done" and nothing, so I have to go and do some complicated thing and make the XP partition active and I get XP back. when I right click on my computer and go to manage and then disk management, i get one partition named C and one unnamed, but it has the operatng system on it (not windows) and i just want a way to boot from that partition, any ideas?

computer specs:

Dell optiplex GX280 SFF, 2.8 GHz Pentium 4, 320GB HDD, intel graphics, 1GB RAM

Welcome to the forums :emotion-21:

Why didn't you mention what the other OS was, instead of just saying "another OS"?

It would've made answering with specific suggestions a lot easier :emotion-55:

Did you follow the steps as seen in these guides, for dual-booting OS':

Dual-Boot XP & Vista / Dual-Boot XP & Linux?
