Can't get Windows updates after a clean install.

Inspiron 1720, Win7 Ultimate x64

Did a clean install today on a separate partition. Did not delete existing installation of same OS using the same key. The new install won't download the updates.C:\ shows numerous Windows.old files. Anything jump out at anyone or is this Win10 being Win10 ?

PS Would changing this to Win7 Professional help the situation ?

I should add this is a retail SP1 slipstreamed version. As well I was able to get IE 11 installed without issue.

Theres been some issues with Windows Update with Windows 7 clean installs for the last few months... You can use the WSUS Offline Update to patch Windows 7, after that Windows Update will work.

However since your plan is to make your system a Windows 10 Pro Device. You are better to just download a Windows 10 TH2 .iso and clean install directly with your Windows 7 Ultimate Product Key:

Appreciate the WSUS tool. Had not used it before. Everything appeared to go well, 200+ downloads verified and installed. Problem is that the updates don't show as installed. I confirmed my proper use with your speeded-up youtube video. I did select the correct Win7 x64. not sure what the problem is. Will clear the Windows Update Cache and try again tomorrow. Thanks

Update:

Didn't realize it was a 2-part tool. It (manually) updated about 160 updates, fixed the update accessibilty which downloaded the remaining Windows updates. I realize you're a promoter of Windows 10 so I really do appreciate the helping hand. Keep up the great work !

Hii maxd,

If you are having such Windows update problem then you should clear Windows Update cache to get rid of it.

Deleting Windows update cache will help you in solving Windows update errors like - Windows Update Stuck at Checking for Updates, Windows Update Stuck at preparing to install updates, or Windows Updates Stuck at 0%,  and much more.

I hope it helps.
