I recently purchased Dell 8400 with McAfee installed. Each time computer starts I get a box saying security center set up and running, which I presume is normal....but this is followed by McAfee product set up box to register for updates. I go through the process but then get an error message saying my PC is missing a valid Dell service tag and ineligible to receive this offer. This also happens when I click on the critical updates pop-up screen which appears every so often. Contacted McAfee who weren't much help other than to suggest reinstall. I'd quite like to ditch it altogether, but I've read that removing the firewall from the Add/Remove in control panel which they recommend can damage internet connection......I'm on cable broadband LAN.
Anyone got any ideas?.........very grateful for any help.
Call Dell.
Or reinstall McAfee.
I never heard removing a Firewall application messing up an internet connection, but I suppose it's possible.

Don't stay on the Internet if you are disabling or uninstalling your firewall even for just a few minutes. Disconnect your Internet connection if you are going to be without a firewall. It takes only minutes before you are likely to get some sort of malware on your computer if you have no firewall.
