Dell PC turns off only with the switch
Hello
When I try to turn off my Dell Dimension XPS (1.4GHZ), from Start to Shut Down, etc.., the computer does not shut off. I have to do it by hand, through the ON/OFF switch, as it seems to freeze in the last few steps. And then to reboot, it goes first through a very slow Scan Disk.
Before this, it would shut off, but not without me clicking a message indicating a Sistartup service error.
I know I had to remove a Parite B. Win 32 virus. Is it possible it could have caused this problem.
Help will be appreciated.
Thanks,
Alain

Yes, but it's probably going to depend on whether you did a complete job of removing the virus.
See this for information on troubleshooting shutdown problems with Windows ME:

Thanks for your input. Yes I am sure that the virus is gone: I checked with NAV 2001, Bullguard and F-Prot. They all report that there is no virus. To remove it, I had to use F-Prot under DOS.
Thanks for the link, I will check it.
