Dell Support Center Critical Alerts

I've got Dell Support Center 3.05 installed on both my laptop and desktop.  Periodically, a notice pops up warning me that there are some critical updates ready to install but when I click on the alert, it just takes me to the main landing screen of the support center.  When I check the downloads and drivers area, there are no updated files.  Where is the support center trying to direct me and how am I to know whether or not I have the latest version of each file?

WalkersRenton,

Not quite sure how you can tell what version of Dell Support Center you have. My Dell XPS 15 Dell Support Center looks like...

If you click on the left column, you're screen should look like the above picture. You can then click the install button and it will download the drivers for you.

You can change the settings to remove the critical updates or change any of the notifications by clickin on the settings button.

I got one for the wireless display. When I went to install it, it stated that is was already installed.

 WalkersRenton,

If you can tell me the make and model of your computer and operating system(32-bit or 64-bit) and which alerts are false alarms, I have someone to contact and they'll check into it.

There's the rub. I only get a notification in my system tray that there is a critical update but when I open up Support Center, everything is fine. It's happening on an Inspiron 1545 with Vista Home Premium 64 and a Vostro 200 with XP Pro 32. Sometimes I imagine Support Center is just lonely and wants me to click around for a while so that it feels useful.

Thanks for the response!  It appears that I'm occasionally getting false alarms if that's the case.  You can find the Support Center's version number by clicking on the gear icon and choosing About from the menu options.

 WalkersRenton,

I sent an email about this. If you happen to get the information, just reply back here and I'll let someone know so it can be looked at.

Walkers/Renton,

I have the same exact problem in that I get that popup fm Dell Support Center stating "1 new critical alert(2)  available", but when I bring up Support Center there is no Alert notice.

I have the exact same situation for my Dimension 9200 running Win/XP SP3. Was there ever an answer for this question? I have assumed that it will be a waste of time to contact Dell because the computer is out of warranty. Still, the Dell-supplied software should be supported but I have no idea where to go.

Rick,

I should have noted that my installed version of Dell Support Center is 3.1.5830.12, which was installed June 25. I think I uninstalled the old version first, but I'm not sure.  I suppose I could start over but I saw another forum entry that seemed to have the same issue with v3.1. That makes me think that this is a Dell issue.

Doug,

Wondering if something is still there for Dell Support Center 2.0 You can try the uninstall and start over. Look in...

C:\Program Files

C:\Program Files (x86)

For and Dell Support Center folders. If any are there after installation and restarting, kindly delete them. This should give you a clean start.

If the problems still happen, you can always uninstall the Dell Support Center as it's not really a needed program.

i also occasionally get the 'critical alert' message and then get taken to the Dell Support Center - however, there is no red area on the left, only a yellow 'Recommended' area - it would be so helpful if clicking on the 'critical alert' message actually took the user directly to an alert!  i'm assuming since there's no red 'Critical Alerts' area on the left side of my screen, that the 'critical alert' message in my toolbar is a false alarm...(possibly Dell trying to get me to buy some product) - one more thing - every few months, Dell decides to update my system with no option to postpone, or indeed with no message that it's doing so - i only realize it when my system grinds to a halt and i see dell processes in task manager - any way to be notified of these in advance and have the option to wait until a better time to take over my system?  TIA
