Dell XPS 15 L502X rollback Windows 10 to 8 - don't have disks

I installed Windows 10 a few months back on my XPS 15 L502X. It seemed OK, but a little clunky. Now I'm sick of it. It is so much slower, things freeze up, the start button doesn't work, it takes forever to login, webcam doesn't always work etc, etc.

So, I want Windows 8.1 back. I actually grew to like this OS. Problem is I don't have the installation disks. I tried to get some via the Dell website but came to a bit of a dead end and am not sure if they will be supplied after the warranty has expired.

Also, I don't seem to have an activation code on the case - is this an issue.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks,

Chris

You can get Windows 8.1 by following the instructions here:

However performance woes are likely due to the fact that you performed an initial upgrade install. These always perform substantially worse. A Clean Install of Windows 10 TH2 will work much better:

Philip - Thanks for the info. Those are great resources and cover just about everything.

Makes sense about clean install vs upgrade. It seemed like an easy option.

I'll probably try a clean install of Windows 10. Might have a check for driver issues first though. Any info on Win10 drivers for the XPS L502X would be much appreciated.

Thansk,

Chris

Windows 10 should have most the drivers required inbuilt or obtain them automatically via Windows Update. There are a few things I would recommend installing however such as the Free Fall Sensor and Dell Quickset:

http://downloads.dell.com/FOLDER00951951M/6/FFS_ST_W78_A00_Setup-KT7XG_ZPE.exe

http://downloads.dell.com/FOLDER00955635M/11/APP_Quickset_W78_A05_Setup-GMFY2_ZPE.exe

I would also advise upgrading the Intel management Engine Interface driver:

http://downloads.dell.com/FOLDER03451721M/1/7347_Chipset_Driver_YJVNG_WN32_11.0.0.1173_A01.EXE

Also try manually installing the latest Touchpad driver:
