Dell vostro 1400 help

I was using my Vostro 1400 suddenly when the screen hanged and vertical lines appeared on the computer then disappeared... so i restart the laptop out of panic .. and when i tried to restart it it didnt start ... when ever i push the power butter the only thing that happens is the power light turns on and the capslock light in fornt of the keyboard flickers constantly and then it shutdown itself after a while. My vostro has a 2.4gb ram and and Intel integrated graphic card.
Any insight on how this happend and how to fix it ??
