Fax Console

Had been using fax console in windows XP Pro successfully until a few months ago. Now the console does not receive faxes or causes the PC to hang as soon as it answers a call.   I can still send faxes though.  I have tried reinstalling fax console via add/remove programs - windows components but still have problems. Sometime prior to noticing problem microsoft updates had been installed. Any ideas to fix.

Though I dont have a definitive answer to this issue, I can suggest a thing or two. You mentioned that windows update happened prior to this issue surfaced.
 
In add/remove programs, sort the list by Date and check which update got installed on that particular day. Try uninstalling the concerned windows hotfix.
 
If you are unable to locate the hotfix, try to do a system restore to a date before the issue with fax started.
