Help..Windows Media incompatibility w/ XP still

Does anyone have any ideas?  I have XP & keep getting The message: This version of Windows Media Technologies is incompatible with this version of Windows. For more information, view the information at the Microsoft web site.  I've attempted to do all that was suggested to roll back to version 10 from version 11 windows media and still get the message.  I've uninstalled the player, the runtime, & the mode driver framework feature pack 1.0...I've reinstalled version 10....I'm at a loss.  and somehow someway it affects some websites that I go in..which will make my internet close down immediately.  So I'll probably have to do a system restore to a prior date again to fix that.  This is so frustrating.  I think it all started when I upgraded to verions 11, but cant even remember now for sure.  Thanks!
