I did the latest XP update and I keep getting the BSOD...

I have a vostro 1400, not much exciting on it, nothing special, and a few days ago I let Microsoft do its thing and now I get the BSOD every half hour or so and the stop error (?) is 0X00000F4.   Anybody know what the heck might be going on?  I haven't downloaded anything new, and i don't have a virus.  Thanks for any help!

In the link

http://aumha.org/a/stop.htm

click on F4 in the right column to show info in the centre pane; but it basically says it could be anything.

http://support.microsoft.com/search/default.aspx?query=0x000000F4&spid=1173&range=

has some links that may or may not be useful.

I did find a post claiming to have solved the problem, but unfortunately the link the poster gives appears to be dead:

You could also see if this helps:

Try restoring to a time before you updated.

Also worth trying is to run chkdsk /r: right click on your C:\ dive icon (assuming C:\ is where windows is installed), click properties, Tools tab, error checking, click check now, check the box automatically fix system file errors, click start. It will tell you that the system needs to restart to run chkdsk, so restart, and that will run (may take some time), then Windows should load.
