Inspiron 6400 Fails to boot operating system but Media direct is working

Hi Guys,

I have been having a problem with my Inspiron 6400 recently. I am not able to boot into Windows XP. I ran the diagnostics and completed the entire set of system testing (including extended system test) etc and had no problems.

I am able to open Media Direct, play music, video and access photos from the hard drive through the media direct. When I shut down the computer after media direct session, it shows the Windows XP logo with shut down message..

What should I do to restore the computer?

Thanks in advance,

Anand

Hi Anand

1. Quote “I am able to open Media Direct” is that from Power On status or from Power Off status?

From what you say it sounds like its from Power On status

2. What version of XP, is it Media Center, Home or Pro?

1: C:\windows

2: F:\windows

When I press 1 it does not do any thing.

I don't know which drive should I select for repair windows xp.

Kindly help me also.
