Install 64bit OS

I don't know if this is the right place to post this or not. I have an older Dell PC with Windows Vista installed. I need to do a complete system wipe and reinstall of the OS. The PC is 64bit but the Dell installation disk will only install the 32 bit version. How can I force it to install as 64bit?

Thanks!

You can't force anything, because the Dell Windows DVD you received is Vista 32-bit only. That is what you bought and was included when you bought your PC.

Also, 64-bit OS is only useful if you have more than 4GB of RAM.

OEM media contains only the version you ordered (and Dell won't provide anything other than what you ordered).  Your key is valid for either one, but you must obtain the 64-bit media on your own.  You can buy or borrow a Dell 64-bit DVD or you can use "retail" media to install, then activate over the phone using your Product Key.

What is the model of the Dell?

You may follow Windows Reinstallation Guide/A Clean Install of Windows Vista:

This will instruct you in how to download 64 bit installation files and make a recovery USB as well as backup and restore the Dell OEM Product Activation.
