Installing acrobat reader makes inspiron 1525 unable to shut down

I don't understand it, it doesn't make sense, but every time I install adobe reader my laptop becomes unable to shut down. I then run a system restore to before it was installed and everything is fine. It seems there might be some other people affected by it, but they don't know a cause. Anyone know what this is? (seriously, it's always repeatable)

Adobe could be starting up and running something in the background that you don't need.  See here on how to use msconfig in Vista, uncheck everything related to Adobe, and then see if you can shut down:

I gave up on Adobe reader's bloat and started using the free Foxit reader instead - you might want to give that a try:

No it get's all the way through shut down, where all those processes should be shut down, but somehow the code to actually shut the system down is never sent. Instead I get an infinite loop of shut down, restart, hibernates, etc... It doesn't make any sense that somehow reader changed such a critical thing as the actual code to turn off a system.
