Java Applets Not Displayed When High-Performance NVIDIA processor Is Selected

I'm posting this primarily as a workaround for others but if anybody has a proper solution, please let me know.

I have a DELL M4700 with Quadro K100M graphics and drivers version 306.68.

Java applets are displayed as a blank (black) panel if  "High Performance NVIDIA Processor" is selected in 3D settings.

Go to:

NVIDIA Control Panel -> 3D Settings -> Global Settings -> Preferred graphics processor-> Auto-Select*.

Click Apply.

*Or you could select Integrated graphics. The default on my machine was "High-performance"
