Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 Reinstallation DVD
I have a Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 Reinstallation DVD that came with a Dell
Dimension 8400 but it won't perform a new installation. I finally got it to put Microsoft Windows XP
Professional on the computer after adjusting the boot sequence and trying a few times but I have no
Media Edition anymore. Every time I try a new installation I end up in some command line mode
that won't copy all the files. What good is a Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005
Reinstallation DVD that won't work on the same computer it came with? Help would be appreciated.

Are you getting stuck on the Microsoft blue screen? Please give exact wording. Somebody will help you out step by step.

I think message 1. Was a black screen and message 2. a blue screen.
Messages are not exact because I can’t remember:
-------------
1. Can’t find SATA 1 drive. Press F1 to continue or F2 for the Startup menu.
2. Windows could not find a drive to copy files from. Press Enter to reboot.
Anyway, I made the six floppy disks from a download (WindowsXP-KB310994-SP2-Pro-BootDisk-ENU.exe) and eventually got a copy of XP Professional on (at least part of one). I changed the boot sequence and switched to combination SATA and PATA at the startup menu.
