Microsoft activation key

Hi

I purchased a Dell Duo a couple of years ago. It came preinstalled with Microsoft and has been working great until last week. It all of a sudden stopped working and anytime I try to use it is asks me for the activation key. I did not get any disk or numbers when purchasing my computer. Does anyone know why it would have suddenly stopped working and how I can fix the problem by getting the activation key?
