New Windows update kb973879 (the one that crashed all of our laptops last week)?

I was looking over my windows update on my studio 15 64 bit vista and I found that microsoft has released another kb973879 update yesterday. I know that last week this update caused havoc over a lot of laptops (including mine) but is this update a fix to the last update (already uninstalled the old update and hid it).

Please let me know.

Thanks.

will3330,

I sure hope so. It looks like it was released yesterday. If you update post back your results if possible.

dcgtls,

My Studio 1737 Vista Home Premium 64-bit computer has SP2 installed. It did not get this update.

My sons girlfriend brought ne her brand new Dell 1555 with Vista Home Premiun 64-bit and she install the updates. She thought she broke her computer transfering files and folders and ask me to look at it. Yes, KB973879 was the culprit. I uninstalled it, then hid the update and changed the settings to notify.

I then installed SP2 on the computer and she is having no issues. It's kinda scarey when you have a brand new computer give you a BSOD.

All computers I have seen this on, so far, were Vista 64-bit systems with SP1.

Both of the computers what had the problem here were already on SP2 before this update installed last week. They did both get it again last night so we will see if Microsoft reworked it and released with the same KB number.
