Norton Systemworks 2004 uninstall

I have the Dimension 8250 with Norton Systemworks 2004 installed. I am thinking of only upgrading to the Norton Antivirus 2005. Is is possible to upgrade to the Antivirus only after having used the Systemworks?

If so, do I just go through the uninstall process or is there some other process to eradicate all the Systemworks from my system?

tirna,

I have the Dimension 8250 with Norton Systemworks 2004 installed. I am thinking of only upgrading to the Norton Antivirus 2005. Is is possible to upgrade to the Antivirus only after having used the Systemworks?   Yes, it is, and with an XP system you'll be much better off without SystemWorks.

If so, do I just go through the uninstall process or is there some other process to eradicate all the Systemworks from my system?   Uninstalling through Add or Remove Programs should remove it from the computer.

If you wish to keep the NSW2004 and want to upgrade the NAV part - just put the NAV2005 disk in and it will uninstall the NAV2004 and replace it with the new version. The newer versions have an uninstall ability - thank goodness.

If you want to have just NAV2005 then uninstall NSW 2004 through add/remove - then install NAV2005. Hope a cleanup is not necessary after the uninstall of NSW2004.

Yes, you can do as you suggest.

Or, you can review all the Norton products and see what qualifies for the UPGRADE rebate, http://www.symantec.com/homecomputing/rebates/.  That might make it more economical.

Also, you can keep the SW components and just add the new product, unless it's SW or SW Premier.

Ken,

What kind of cleanup might I need by uninstalling the NSW 2004?

Denny,

In Control Panel, I see:

1. Norton System Works 2004

2. Norton WMI update

3. Live update

Do I install my Antivirus 2005 before uninstalling (1) Norton System Works 2004 and uninstall (2) Norton WMI update? Or do I make the uninstall before installing my Antivirus 2005?

So, the NSW is overkill with the XP system or it creates proglems with XP?

tirna,

Basically, both, based on numerous reports from XP users who have NSW installed.

For removal see this. It provides options for both partial and complete removal.

tirna - I chose to keep my NSW 2003 because I liked some of the features.

If you want to keep the NSW2004 - just put the NAV2005 in your drive and install. It will remove NAV2004 and replace it with 2005.

Make sure you let it install into the default location - I have heard some problems can occur if you change the 'location' to something else like Systemworks.  It will load into a NAV location but it will also integrate with NSW2004.

If you choose to get rid of NSW 2004 - I would uninstall it first through Control Panel - Add/Remove.

It should remove clean and be OK. Reboot. Then install NAV2005.

To answer your question- sometimes not everything gets uninstalled properly and some cleaning needs to be done. You will know this if you get a message during the NAV2005 install. Probably will not be a problem. See Denny's link and info.

I would not uninstall the WMI update - the 2005 disk will see it. Live update can also be left there.

Personally - I kept my old NSW2003 and in fact upgraded to NSW2005 recently - after the NAV2005 into NSW2003.

I only have auto protect load on startup. All of the other NSW features I use manually and I find everything is OK and not overloading my PC.
