Outlook 2010 Search is not working and/or taking a very long time to find results.

We have been having some issues with the search feature in outllook 2010, recently. We are connected to an exchange server. When someone tries to search with a keyword, it will take about 5min to show results or will get a message saysing "no results..." even thought we know for a fact that it is there. What could be causing the lag on the search ability on the outlook.

Thanks for your help.

The MS forum for Outlook would be a good place to ask this and browse for answers. Outlook Search that takes a long time can be caused by Search looking for items on the Network instead of on one computer. Lots of forums named MS Outlook out there-- this is the MS forum-- http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/office/forum/office_2010

Hi,

Welcome to the Community.

Follow these steps and see if it works,

a. Run SCANpst.exe on the Outlook Data file.

  SCANpst.exe is found in C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office 14\ or in Program Files (x86)\... if    using 64 bit Windows 7.

b. If not then try the same in safe mode.

c. Try if search in your windows is working.

d. Turn Windows Indexing Service back on.

  > Control Panel >> Programs >> Programs and Features >> Turn Windows features on or off

 > Tick (check mark) the Indexing Service check box and hit OK

You may want to restart your computer just for good measure.  Once you are back up, you will need to wait for a while for the indexing service to Index everything (many hours), but after a short time (half hour) you can check your email search bar and find that some of your email is now showing in the search results.

If you are getting any particular error message please reply back with the same.

Hope this helps.

Thank you
